Marine Science

Marine Science is an 18-chapter science course written for middle-grade learners in grades 4–7. This is engaging, relevant science everyone should learn. Marine Science takes an integrated approach, weaving together oceanography, marine biology, geology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science to give students a comprehensive view of our blue planet. The course meets important Next Generation Science Standards and incorporates many of the Common Core Standards for math and language arts.

Marine Science uses a multimodal approach for delivering content. Each chapter includes curated videos, color photographs, and illustrations. Over 90 custom-made videos were developed specifically for this course to highlight important ocean science topics. Hands-on modeling, inquiry-based questions, and interactive reinforcement are built into every chapter. In addition, thoughtfully designed labs and activities scaffold learning and deepen understanding.

Marine Science incorporates writing, math, and history into the text. Through short-answer questions and scaffolded writing assignments, this course helps learners develop writing skills and practice analytical thinking. The goal is to guide students in understanding the content and structure of science communication. Creative expression is also encouraged through art and design projects, helping students visualize complex ideas while staying true to scientific accuracy.
